Study on the economic added value and social role of 1. FSV Mainz 05 e.V. in the region<\/h2>\n\n

\n Sports clubs such as 1. FSV Mainz 05 are permanent fixtures in the Bundesliga and thus in German football culture. However, they not only characterise the entire entertainment industry, but also the regional city culture.\n<\/p>\n\n

\n This study is relevant against this backdrop: For the first time, it provides a data-based analysis of the economic and social impact of 1. FSV Mainz 05 and thus creates a sound basis for visualising and further developing the club's potential in a targeted manner.\n<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Methodological approach<\/h3>\n

\n The analysis is divided into two central areas: Firstly, the economic value added, which quantifies the economic significance of the club, was analysed on the basis of detailed financial, tax and employment data for 1. FSV Mainz 05. In addition, the consumption-based effects of the fan community were recorded in a specially conducted stadium survey and econometrically analysed using a regression model. Secondly, public perception, i.e. the social view of the club and its role in the city and region, was analysed on the basis of two large-scale online surveys, which provide a differentiated picture of sentiment at national and regional level. Furthermore, the club's reach and media presence were qualitatively analysed and evaluated.\n<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Economic value creation:<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n\n

  • Total value added 2023\/24: \u20ac 193 million, of which \u20ac 143 million in the region<\/li>\n
  • 750,000 euros added value per permanent employee.<\/li>\n
  • Around 260 regular employees, over 2,000 people on duty on match days, including numerous external service providers (e.g. security staff).<\/li>\n
  • Over EUR 42 million in tax revenue generated, a significant amount for the city of Mainz.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The impact of Mainz 05 goes beyond purely economic factors.<\/p>\n


    Public perception:<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

    • Two thirds of the population know Mainz 05, less than 1 % negative perception.<\/li>\n
    • Anchoring in regional identity - values such as down-to-earthness and a sense of home.<\/li>\n
    • Almost every second person sees the association as relevant for the external perception of the city.<\/li>\n

      Conclusion<\/h3>\n

      With a total value added of 193 million euros, of which 74% is a regional return flow and over 42 million euros in tax revenue, the club makes a significant contribution to the economic stability of the region. At the same time, Mainz 05 acts as an identity-creating player with a high profile, positive perception and clear anchoring in social life.
