Study
Clarification of a term used inconsistently in discourse
On behalf of a company, we have analysed why studies on the ‘simultaneous use’ of two products arrive at conflicting results – and what definition lies behind each one.

Background
The ‘concurrent use’ of two products is a recurring topic in public and regulatory discourse. In practice, however, different studies have employed very different definitions and measurement approaches – resulting in contradictory findings that are difficult to compare.
Our Approach
-
1
Analysis of relevant studies and a systematic comparison of their study designs, definitions and measurement approaches.
-
2
Identify where findings contradict one another and which differences can be explained by methodological factors.
-
3
Establishment of a clear, consistent set of definitions for use in internal and external communications.
Result
The result was a clear, structured summary that brought transparency to a concept that had previously been used inconsistently. The company was able to conduct internal discussions using a consistent set of terms, better contextualise study results, and specifically highlight to external parties which definition was being used in each instance.
