Prof Dr Tim Florstedt has held the Chair of Civil Law, Commercial and Business Law and Banking Law at EBS Law School in Wiesbaden since 2013. He completed his doctorate under Prof Dr Dres. h.c. Karsten Schmidt in Bonn; he completed his habilitation under Prof. Dr Dres. h.c. Theodor Baums at the Institute for Law and Finance at Goethe University Frankfurt.

His research and advice is at the interface of corporate, capital market and tax law, with a proven focus on analysing the impact of anti-abuse tax norms, shareholder protection, corporate finance reform and, most recently, crypto asset law. More than fifteen years of academic research into share transactions around the dividend record date (cum/ex, cum/cum, cum/fake) make him one of the most prominent voices in this field. Florstedt has repeatedly advised the Federal Ministry of Justice and has appeared several times as an expert in the Finance Committee of the German Bundestag, including on issues relating to capital gains tax and the Withholding Tax Relief Modernisation Act. He has been an ombudsman for private banks since September 2023 and a member of BaFin's Advisory Board for Investor and Consumer Protection since December 2025.

He gained international experience as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, as a Visiting Academic at the University of Cambridge and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Athens; he is currently conducting comparative law research on multi-voting shares together with colleagues at the University of Istanbul. His work - more than 65 articles, commentaries and monographs - appears regularly in the leading German legal journals.
