Jonathan Bothner has been working as a consultant at the IPE since January 2026.

He studied economics at the University of Bayreuth and is currently working on his PhD there at the Chair of Institutional Economics.

His research focuses on applied macroeconomics and the data-driven analysis of economic policy issues.

Before joining the IPE, Jonathan gained experience in research, teaching and economic policy analysis at the University of Bayreuth and as a PhD trainee at the European Central Bank. There, his work focused, amongst other things, on institutional factors influencing investment and on the competitiveness of European economies.
