Klaus Meßerschmidt

Prof. Dr. iur. Klaus Meßerschmidt studied law at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. After the second state examination, he moved to the University of Trier, where he completed his doctorate on the topic of "Legal Issues in the Levying of Environmental Charges". With his habilitation thesis on legislative discretion, he obtained the venia legendi for public law and financial law. In addition to his work as a lawyer, he is an adjunct professor at the law faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin. Furthermore, he is part of the chair team for tax law and public law at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg.

His research focuses and interests lie in the areas of public law, financial law, European law and environmental law. He is the author of a textbook on European environmental law and a commentary on the Federal Nature Conservation Act. In addition to teaching at universities and working as a lawyer, he is a member of the Association of German Teachers of Constitutional Law, the German Society for Legislation and the German Nature Conservation Law Conference.
